Sonam Lama from Helambu Rural Municipality-2, from a young age, used to see the snow ranges of Setamme Semisida, Dorjelakpa, Ganchenpo and imagined what it would be like in Takuro. He had to drop out of school in the fifth grade as he became too busy with household chores. But the mountain-kissing Huthooti never left him. Sonam, 40, feels that her dream since she was 12/13 years old has now come true.

Foreign and local tourists used to come to the tourist village Hyolmobhoomi Helambu. He had seen a lot of foreign tourists carrying porters towards the top of the mountain. He also saw only one option to fulfill his dream of the Himalayas, to become a porter while facing many financial shortages. He spent the next 19 years as a porter. "After dropping out of studies, I became a porter for tourists at a young age, that too for a salary of 250 rupees," Sonam says, remembering the pain of that time, "Later, the armed conflict started in the country, and I was disappointed when the tourism sector was completely affected."

At the age of 22, he went to work in a bakery factory in Malaysia. Even when he stayed there for three years, he kept staring at the pictures of the mountains, and his heart became more and more haunted. He returned after his father died of cancer. "Then I turned back to my dream," he said. 2

In the year 064, he joined Mountain Inn Travel Agency after training in 'mountain trekking' for the first time. And it started, the road show work for the tourists coming for various Himalayan trekking. From the highest peak Everest to Annapurna Base Camp (ABC), Makalu, Amadablam, 7 mountains with a height of 7,000 are visited by tourists. After the earthquake of 2072, the work of the guide was also slowed down. After that, he got involved in household affairs for some time.

After three years, he turned towards the mountains again. Since then, he has been continuously busy as a guide on Himalayan trekking routes. On December 15, 2078, with the help of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Melamchi became the guide of the 'Geographical and Topographical Survey' of Shirveg Vemathang in Helambu, the source of the flood. There, under his leadership, he rescued 16 people trapped in the snow and won praise. Apart from that, he believes that life is a journey, remembering the moment when he successfully traveled with two tourists from Finland on the east to west Himalayan trail, which is considered the most difficult trek in the field of Himalayan tourism.  Everest via

Sonam doesn't forget the joy she got when the famous French YouTuber Ines Denny Banzauz released the documentary 'A year to climb Everest' in Paris. "That seems to be one of the many joys of mountain climbing," he said.

He reached the peak of Everest on May 8, 2081 and hoisted the national flag of Nepal. He has climbed the Himalayan peaks including Makalu (8,463) in May, 2080, Amadablam (6,814) in October of the same year. From porters, guides to mountain climbers, he is concerned that the government has not given special priority to promote the tourism sector. The government invests in the tourism sector and believes that tourists should be attracted by original culture and art.
