Tapeshwor Yadav, a candidate from the National Independent Party (NISP) in Siraha-4, has been elected as a member of the House of Representatives. Yadav, who contested for the first time, was elected as an MP by securing 36,210 votes.

His closest rival in this constituency, Ajay Shankar Nayak of the Nepali Communist Party, received 7,992 votes. Similarly, Birendra Mahato of the Janmat Party received 5,041 votes and Dharmanath Sah of the CPN-UML received 4,227 votes.

Similarly, Chandra Kaladevi Yadav of the Nepali Congress received 4,061 votes, while Raj Kishore Yadav of the Janata Samajwadi Party and Nepal received 3,484 votes.

Born on Magh 15, 2049 in Naraha village, Naraha Rural Municipality-5, Siraha, the 33-year-old has studied engineering up to graduation from Tribhuvan University. Before joining formal politics, he has experience working as an engineer on various government and non-government organization projects.

He has also worked as a technician in Siraha's Mirchaiya Municipality for 2 years on a contract basis. He resigned from the municipality in 2079 BS and entered formal politics. He joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh during its establishment and is now the president of Madhesh Province. Tapeshwor has been active in politics informally since his student days.

Yadav, who became the central general secretary of the Nepal Engineers Association of Madhesh in 2075 BS, then served as the president of the Madhesh Province Engineers Association for two terms. He is also the founding president of the Pokhara-based Terai Student Service Society.

Yadav said his victory was mainly due to the voters' desire for change. 'The old leaders only cheated the people in the past, so the people were fed up,' Tapeshwor told Kantipur, 'I won because of the people's desire for change.'

Yadav said that he would live up to the expectations of the voters. He says that issues such as infrastructure development in the region, improvement in education and health services, and ending unemployment will be his priorities. ‘Voters have high expectations from us, we will rise above that,’ he says, ‘I will not only put the problems here in Parliament, but also work to solve them.’

Tapeshwor’s father Satyanarayan Yadav is very happy with his victory. ‘He was always interested in politics, now that he has become an MP, I am very happy,’ he says, ‘I wish him to do good for the people, to work in a way that keeps our heads high.’
