A member of the UML District Committee, he was also associated with law, agriculture and journalism. For a few years, he worked as a correspondent in Kantipur. Tharu's father Bhikkhu was the Pradhan Panchayat in the Panchayat system.
'I worked as a farmer too. I also repaired punctured bicycle and motorcycle tires,' says Tharu. After becoming an MP, he said that his first priority would be to set up a health desk to end the problems in the service recipient office. 'Employees who do not do the work of service recipients should be subject to action,' he said.
Shalikram Adhikari, who lost to Tharu, said that the people wanted change and the Rashtriya Swatantra Party won. 'Now the shortcomings within the party will be pointed out,' he said, 'We will further strengthen the organization.'
Rajendra Dhital, a professor at Babai Multiple Campus, says that the rise of the Rashtriya Swatantra Party was due to the shortcomings of the leaders of the old big parties. 'The youth chose change,' he said, 'That is why the Rashtriya Swatantra Party has become a big party.'
