National Independent Party candidate Sulabh Kharel has been elected from Rupandehi constituency number 2 with a huge margin. Sulabh has made his way to the House by defeating CPN-UML Vice-Chairman Bishnu Poudel by a margin of more than 43,000 votes. While he got 56,550 votes, Poudel got only 12,831 votes.

The 28-year-old youth from Semlar, Butwal Sub-metropolitan City-16, joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) just a year ago. Kharel had completed his SLC from Rupandehi. After completing his five-year BA-LLB from Nepal Law Campus, he practiced law for four years. He had filed a writ petition against the dissolution of the House of Representatives by the then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. At that time, he was known as the youngest writ petitioner. While studying at Nepal Law Campus, Kathmandu, he joined the ANNFSU, a close affiliate of the CPN (UML), for about two years and started his political career.

He returned to Nepal in 2081 after completing his master's degree in constitutional and criminal law from the University of Michigan in the US. After returning to Nepal, he started working as an activist on legal debates, constitutional issues, and public concerns. When the Election Commission decided to fine more than a dozen federal lawmakers of the National Independent Party, Kharel filed a writ petition against it. After returning to Nepal, he joined the National Independent Party. He became active in legal advice on issues such as cooperative fraud, organized crime, and money laundering cases against RSP President Ravi Lamichhane.

After the Gen-G protests on Bhadra 23 and 24, he was drawn into controversy after he made public statements that judges should be attacked and the Supreme Court should be burned. On Mangsir 17, Gehendra Malla filed a writ petition against the Prime Minister's Office, demanding that people facing corruption cases be allowed to contest elections. When Kharel, who had come to argue in the Constitutional Bench during the hearing on the writ petition, was asked by Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut, "How can a person who incites a crowd to burn down a judge's house and who cheers when the bench is set on fire come to argue in this bench?" He was then thrown into the spotlight. This incident brought him into the limelight.

After that, Kharel, who became a candidate for the House of Representatives election on Magh 6 on a ticket from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) party, won by securing 56,550 votes. Out of the 86,715 votes cast, he got 65.21 percent of the votes. He defeated UML Vice-President and former Finance Minister and leader Bishnu Poudel, who has made Rupandehi a 'role model' in infrastructure development, by a margin of 43,689 votes.

Poudel received 12,861 votes. He was in the spotlight after becoming a candidate to compete with Poudel. After being elected, he said that he would work for good governance and corruption control, education in Rupandehi, health improvement, employment creation, opportunities for youth, and the rule of law and its institutional reforms, along with the issues mentioned in the RSVP's manifesto.

'I will mainly work by giving first priority to the issues mentioned in the RSVP's manifesto,' he said, 'Apart from that, I will also work on maintaining good governance, creating employment, and institutional reforms for the rule of law.' He said that he would always have his own interest and concern in the development of Rupandehi along with the necessary initiatives for the operation of the international airport.
