According to the final results announced at 5 pm on Monday in Ilam-1, Rai defeated Binod Nembang Limbu by a margin of 911 votes and was elected as a member of the House of Representatives.
Jhalanath Khanal had won the 2048 BS general election, the 2051 BS mid-term election, the 2064 BS and 2070 BS Constituent Assembly elections, and the 2074 BS House of Representatives elections in this constituency on behalf of the CPN-UML. In 2056 BS, Khanal was defeated by Benupraj Prasai of the Congress, and in 2079 BS, Khanal was defeated by Mahesh Basnet of the UML.
Thus, after 26 years, the Congress has succeeded in repeating history in Ilam-1, with Rai at its center.
Rai, born on 2047 Falgun 7 in Suryodaya Municipality-4, Ilam, has a master's degree in management from Shankardev Campus in Kathmandu. Unmarried Rai is currently pursuing an MPhil in economics. He also taught at the same campus for some time.

He has held responsibilities from regional secretary to president in the party organization. As a result of this continuity, the voters of Ilam elected him as a member of the House of Representatives at the age of 35.

While entering parliament with a new mandate, local voter Man Prasad Rai has suggested that the party should focus on the agenda raised in the election campaign.
Rai had earlier also served as the program coordinator of the Koshi Province government's 'Hami Swayamsevak' program.
He believes that ethical politics, accountable leadership and building a better Nepal should be the focus. In the context of the rise of the 'Gen-G' generation and the party's special general convention, the Congress had put him forward as the representative of the youth generation in Ilam-1. Infrastructure, tourism, education and health development were his main election agendas.
After being elected as a member of the House of Representatives, he said that along with making laws in the parliament, he will take initiatives to promote cash crops such as tea, cardamom, amriso and dairy products in eastern Nepal including Ilam and increase farmers' income.
He said that along with the parliament, he will also play a role in making timely reforms to the Congress Party.
'My role will be to link agriculture, tourism and education with policies and investments by expanding youth participation and economic opportunities,' he said.
Stating that he has measured Ilam-1 not only in the report but also 'with his feet', he claimed that he understands the problems of farmers closely. 'It is necessary to modernize local agriculture, promote tourism, create jobs, improve education and health infrastructure. The value chain of agricultural produce needs to be made practical. For that, policies and methods must be improved, this will also be my main priority,' he said.
