Ammar Bahadur Thapa of the NCP, who won the 2070 Constituent Assembly, 2074 Provincial Assembly and 2079 House of Representatives, suffered a humiliating defeat with 4,256 votes.
While there was a nationwide wave of support for the RSS, Thapa is the only leader who has been directly elected as a female MP from the old party. So far, the victorious journey of female candidates from other old parties has not been decided. The Congress had an undefeated journey from this constituency in all the elections until 2048, 2051 and 2064.
Ganesh Bahadur Khadka of the Congress had won in the three elections until 2064. But in the second Constituent Assembly member election held in 2070, the then CPN-UML's Amar Bahadur Thapa (now the CPN-UML candidate) hoisted the communist flag in Dailekh-1.
Since then, the Congress has not fielded a candidate in the House of Representatives member election held due to its alliance tendencies. Congressmen in this area had voted for the plow in 2074 and the sickle in 2079. They have taken revenge by defeating Thapa, who destroyed the legacy of the Congress in 2070, by a huge margin. This is the second attempt by the Congress member Basna to become a public representative after 12 years. She was a candidate for the deputy chief of Narayan Municipality in Dailekh in the local level election held in 2074. But she was defeated by UML's Savitri Malla. In that election, she received 4,866 votes.
Born in Kathmandu on 15 Jestha 2037, Thapa entered politics in 2057 from a student organization close to the Congress. Thapa, who became an active member of the Congress in Dailekh since 2061, has worked in various responsibilities of the party. Thapa, who is associated with various service-oriented social organizations, is also a hotelier. Thapa was a candidate for the central member from the Shekhar group in the 14th General Convention of the Congress. However, the result was not in her hands. Thapa, who was a representative of the 13th General Convention, also became a member of the Mahasamiti. She was open in favor of the special general convention organized by the then general secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwaprakash Sharma after the Gen-G movement of 23-24 Bhadau. Thapa has a master's degree in sociology from Bhimrao University, India. She is a permanent resident of Narayan Municipality.
