Bishnu Bahadur Magar of CPN Maoist Center has won the post of ward chairman of Gorkha Municipality-5. According to the results announced on Sunday night, Magar won with 486 votes.

His closest rival, Congress candidate Bhaikaji Ale, got 402 votes and was defeated. Magar has won by 84 votes. 

Similarly, CPN-UML candidate Durgamaya Thapa Rana got 345 votes, Mangal Bahadur Thapa of Rashtriya Swatantra Party got 82 votes, Rupesh Magrati of Nepal Samajwadi Party got 10 votes, and Bhawani Thapa Magar of Mongol National Organization got 9 votes. RPP's Kalpana Rana got 12 votes, Rupsin Rana of RPP Nepal got 5 votes, National Republic of Nepal's Savina Tamang got 4 votes. 

CPN-UML won the ward chairmanship of that ward earlier. The by-election was held after the death of Khil Bahadur Rana, who won the local level election in 2079. .  Out of the total 1373 votes cast, 18 votes were invalidated.
