Prashant Upreti of the National Independent Party has won the House of Representatives election from Constituency No. 2 of Makawanpur. He is the youngest candidate from Makawanpur. Upreti of Manahari Rural Municipality-7 of Makawanpur has won by securing 31,725 votes. His nearest rival Mahesh Bartaula had secured 19,624 votes. Upreti won by a margin of 12,101 votes.
25-year-old Upreti managed to win in his first parliamentary election. The constituency had been a stronghold of the left since 2048 BS. Upreti has managed to demolish that stronghold. The left had been winning from that constituency, whether it was the House of Representatives election or the Constituent Assembly election.
Born on 10th of Jestha 2057 BS, Upreti is currently studying for a Master's Degree in Education (MED) in Leadership and Management at the Faculty of Education, Kathmandu University. He had passed Bachelor of Travel and Tourism Management from Nepal Academy of Tourism and Hotel Management. Earlier, he had passed 10th with two in Management from Global College of Management, Kathmandu in 2018. He had passed from United Secondary English Boarding School, Makawanpur in 2016.
While working in the secretariat of former Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balen Sah, he arrived in Manahari on Magh 4 after the National Independent Party gave him a candidate ticket from Makawanpur-2. His father Ramchandra Upreti had left the UML party after his son Prashant came with a candidacy ticket from the Rashtriya Swatantra Party. Now, happy that his son has been elected as a member of the House of Representatives, he has suggested that he always work hard to fulfill the promises made to the voters during the election. Responding briefly after winning the House of Representatives, he said, "I will actively work to eliminate poverty and backwardness in my area."
Upreti has succeeded in his first parliamentary journey, beating 22 candidates. In that election, 91,241 votes were cast in Makawanpur-2.
