On Bhadra 24, during the Genji protest, all government offices in the provincial capital Dhangadhi were burned down. The Kailali District Court was also not spared from the agitators' targets. The group that entered the court at around 4 pm also vandalized and set fire to the building. The government attorney's office, the District Bar Association, and the main building of the court were set on fire everywhere.

No courtroom was safe from the raging fire. Ultimately, the court suffered physical and material damage worth more than Rs 50 million. According to the details collected by the court, the damage to the building, windows, doors, drawers, etc. was estimated at Rs 25 million. Similarly, under information technology, the damage to computers, printers, scanners, information systems, and solar systems of all buildings was estimated at Rs 25 million. Court clerk Chetraj Pant said that the complete damage has not been assessed. According to him, the damage to vehicles is yet to be assessed. The process for that has also begun.

According to the details, five government vehicles, two vehicles that came for cases, and more than 100 motorcycles were burned on Bhadra 24. Pant informed that the damage would increase further if the value of the vehicles is assessed.

Among the government offices burned during the protests, evidence has been destroyed along with physical and financial damage. The court's archive room has been most affected by the arson. According to Shrestedar Pant, 30,000 case files kept in the archive room have been reduced to ashes. Accurate data on the destroyed and remaining files is being collected.

Partial service resumed since Bhadra 29

Despite the huge physical and financial damage, the court had already started partial service since Bhadra 29. At that time, the court provided services related to extension of time, detention, habeas corpus, hearing of petitions and call details from outside. Case registration is currently closed due to damage to the server. The court has stated that case registration will begin after Tihar and Chhath festivals. However, charges coming from the government attorney's office are being registered.

The district court is currently trying to provide maximum services to the service recipients. Shrestedar Pant said that the service has been resumed by bringing computers, scanners and other necessary materials from all the other 8 districts of the Far West. The court has resumed additional services including case settlement, case withdrawal, certified by authorized barisnama and marriage registration (court marriage) from last Monday.

Along with this, the work of court reconstruction is also underway. The work of wiring and internet connection in the buildings has been completed. ‘The work of court management is improving. Cleaning, field management and information technology-friendly interrogation rooms have been managed,’ said Shrestedar Pant of the court.

From the service hall of the government attorney’s office

During the protest, the government attorney’s office was also set on fire. The main building of the office was even burnt down to the second floor. The protesters did not leave the residence of the office chief, Bhandev Joshi. His kitchen was also vandalized.

Although there was no major damage to the building, none of the items inside were salvaged. More importantly, all the missiles decided in the office since 2050 have been destroyed by fire. Office chief Joshi says, ‘We suffered a lot of damage. No items were left in any room. All the missiles decided since 50 years have been reduced to ashes.’ According to him, although details have been collected, all the damage has not been confirmed.

According to the details collected by the office, the physical structure, vehicles, all computers, printers, photocopy machines, drawers, tables and chairs have been vandalized and are in a state of disrepair.

Similarly, the office has stated that all the documents including the original files received for prosecution, 853 duplicate files of cases, duplicate files received so far and decisions (records), personal files of all employees have been burnt.

The office has stated that the original files of ongoing cases, all the files kept in the archives, 48 ​​files decided by the court, the appeal registration register (from 2060 to the present), all the decision books to date, 200 original applications registered with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, and original files pending prosecution have been burnt and destroyed.
