Biratnagar Kings registered their third consecutive win in the Nepal Premier League (NPL) cricket after captain Sandeep Lamichhane delivered a brilliant bowling performance. Biratnagar defeated defending champions Janakpur Bolts by 9 runs in their match on Monday.

Janakpur, who had set a target of 136 runs after Sandeep took 4 wickets, could only score 126 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs at the Tribhuvan University Cricket International Stadium, Kirtipur.

Sandeep had spent only 11 runs in 4 overs. Surya Tamang took 2 for 20 runs in 4 overs, while Merchant de Lange and Shubham Ranjan took 1 wicket each.

Biratnagar, which was out of the playoffs last season, won all its first three matches. Champion Janakpur, on the other hand, suffered a defeat in its second consecutive match.

Opener Asif Sheikh was dismissed for 13 runs. He hit 2 fours in 11 balls. Captain Anil Sah disappointed again. He could only add 4 runs in 14 balls. Lahiru Milantha was dismissed for 23 runs in 22 balls, hitting 2 fours and 1 six.

Sanjay Krishnamurthy scored 20 runs in 12 balls, including 2 fours and 1 six. Mayan Yadav was dismissed for 4 runs. Lofty Eaton, who was run out in the last over, scored the highest score of 41 runs for Janakpur. He hit 4 fours and 1 six in 30 balls after being run out.

Earlier, Biratnagar, who were invited to bat after losing the toss, could only make a score of 135-7. Shubham Ranjane scored the highest score of 37 runs for Biratnagar. He hit 2 fours and a six in 29 balls. Bashir scored 36 runs with 3 sixes in 35 balls.

Opener Lokesh Bam scored 26 runs with 2 fours and 1 six in 28 balls, George Munsey scored 10 runs, Martin Guptill scored 13 runs. Similarly, Narayan Joshi scored 2 and Merchant de Lange scored zero. Pratish GC remained unbeaten on 2 runs. Janakpur's Sangeeth Kore scored 26 in 4 overs and Rupesh Singh took 2-2 for 12 runs in 2 overs, while Aditya Mahata took 1 wicket.

Last year, Janakpur started their title journey by defeating Biratnagar by 8 wickets in the opening match. Despite Martin Guptill's half-century, Biratnagar was all out for 127 runs in 19 overs. Lahiru Milantha scored 75 runs in 53 balls as Janakpur scored 131 runs in 15.3 overs.

Janakpur's performance has not been up to par in the match after star all-rounder Jimmy Neesam left for Pokhara due to Janakpur not getting a Test quota.
