On this day (March 9) in 2012, Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid retired from international sports. Dravid is currently the head coach of the Indian cricket team.

Born on January 11, 1973 in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, Dravid grew up in Bangalore. He started playing cricket at the age of 12. Dravid, who played for U-15, U-17, U-19 teams for Karnataka, made his debut in the national team on April 3, 1996 against Sri Lanka in an ODI. Similarly, he played his first Test against England on June 20, 1996. 

Right-handed batsman Dravid is considered to be very successful in playing the defensive game. He was very good at staying at the crease. Because of this he got the nickname 'Mr Dependable'. Dravid scored 10,889 runs in 344 ODIs played by India. Similarly, he scored 13,288 runs in 164 Test matches.
