Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSWP) leader Shishir Khanal has withdrawn his claim to the post of general secretary of the party. He said that he will not contest the election to prioritize party unity, institutional strengthening and consensus in leadership selection.
In a statement made public on social media on Friday, Khanal said that he has decided to withdraw from the election for the post of general secretary he had claimed with the aim of institutionalizing the achievements made at the first historic general convention and further strengthening the party.
He expressed the hope that his decision would help create an environment for other aspiring leaders to select leadership based on consensus.
Khanal expressed his gratitude for the trust shown in him by representatives from across the country and abroad in the election of central committee members and pledged to play an active role in strengthening the party in the coming days.
'Respecting the trust and confidence expressed by the representatives from all over the country and abroad who trusted me in the Central Committee elections held yesterday, I will continue to play my role in strengthening the party further in the coming days,' he said.
Earlier, eight leaders, including Khanal, had announced their candidacies for the post of General Secretary. Outgoing General Secretary Kavindra Burlakoti, outgoing Joint General Secretary Bipin Acharya, leaders Ganesh Parajuli, Manish Jha, and Ganesh Karki had announced their candidacies. Similarly, the then General Secretary of the Bibeksheel Sajha Party, Ranju Darshana, Sagar Dhakal, and Pramod Neupane had also announced their candidacies for the post of General Secretary.
