Kavindra Burlakoti has withdrawn his candidacy for the post of General Secretary of the Nepali Congress Party. Burlakoti, who is also the outgoing General Secretary, withdrew his candidacy at the last minute.
He said that he withdrew his candidacy considering the interests of the party as supreme. He said on Facebook, 'In a party built through continuous struggle, it was not a matter of special desire to be in the race for responsibility by competing with about a dozen candidates for one responsibility.'
Burlakoti said that instead of uniting for nation building, he should not go in the direction of weakening himself. A founding member of the party, he had served as Joint General Secretary for about two years, Acting General Secretary for one year and General Secretary for one year.
Earlier, Lalitpur-2 MP Jagdish Kharel had also withdrawn his candidacy for the post of General Secretary. Now, Pramod Neupane, Rajunath Pandey, Manish Jha, Ranju Darshana, Ganesh Karki, Ganesh Parajuli, Sagar Dhakal and Bipin Kumar Acharya will compete for the post of General Secretary 1.
For the vacant post of Vice President 1, Swarnim Wagle, who is also the Finance Minister, has filed a single candidacy. Sobita Gautam and Toshima Karki are competing for the post of Vice President Women.
