Last November, the Nepali Congress District Working Committee meeting recommended Geeta Kumari Lingden Sendang for the National Assembly. Which was beyond possibility. However, Sendang took a step towards becoming a member of the House of Representatives from the proportional list on Thursday.

The team of then President Sher Bahadur Deuba and current President Gagan Thapa in the Congress is present at the district level, and Taplejung is no exception. District President Gajendra Prasad Tumyahang, secretaries Yuk Hanbir Hangam and Ganesh Babu Niraula are Sher Bahadur Deuba's party office bearers. Outgoing District President and outgoing House of Representatives member Lila Devi Bokhim, outgoing President of the Women's Association Geeta Sendang, General Convention Representative Tika Gurung, Bal Bahadur Tamang and other district leaders were in favor of Gagan Thapa.

The first discussion was held in Nepali Congress Taplejung on Mangsir 25 to recommend candidates for the election of members of the House of Representatives. The party led by the then acting president of the Congress, Purna Bahadur Khadka, had written to the district working committee to recommend the names of candidates for the direct, proportional and national elections to the House of Representatives.

According to the letter from the center, the district working committee called a joint meeting of the central general convention representatives, provincial representatives, and former office bearers on the first day of Mangsir 25 and sought their opinions on the candidates. It also asked for the nomination of aspirants along with a cash fee. The next day, the district working committee met. This meeting decided to recommend the name of Gajendra Prasad Tumyahang, who is also the party president, as a single candidate for the direct contest. The names of Pratap Prakash Hangam, Keshav Prasad Dahal and Kalpanadevi Sitaula were recommended for the proportional representation.

Outgoing president and MP Liladevi Bokhim, general convention representative Tika Gurung, Bal Bahadur Tamang and others were interested in the direct representation. Sendang had also registered his nomination for the proportional representation. In the two-day discussion, Gurung, Tamang and others gave up their claim to recommend Tumyahang as a single name for the direct representation.

The district working committee decided to recommend 10 people, including Bokhim, a direct candidate, and Sendang, a proportional candidate, as candidates for the National Assembly, not for the House of Representatives, and sent their names to the center. Bokhim and Sendang disagreed with this decision made by the district. Both filed a complaint with the Koshi Province Working Committee of the Nepali Congress. They pressured the center to include their names along with the complaint, saying that injustice had been done to them.

The Koshi Province Working Committee changed the recommendation made by the district. It recommended Bokhim's name for the direct seat and Sendang's name for the proportional seat for the House of Representatives to the center. The province's recommendation made Sendang an MP. In the first list sent by the party center to the Election Commission, Sendang's name was placed third on the indigenous nationalities side. During the correction, it was included in the first position on the indigenous nationalities women side, paving the way for a parliamentary journey.

Sendang, who is from Sidingwa Rural Municipality-5, Mehele, started her political journey through the Nepal Students' Union. While studying in grade 8, she joined the Nepal Students' Union of Nilgiri Secondary School Mehele. At that time, she was injured in a clash between UML and Congress in Sinam while attending the election rally of Congress candidate Mani Lama. Sendang was injured in the head by a stone thrown by a UML worker. While studying in grade 9, she married the then District Development Committee President Dipendra Sendang.

Sendang, who has a bold nature, is fearless and speaks her mind clearly. Currently, among the four MPs representing the district, she has a complete understanding of the situation of the district by sitting in the regular district. She had been running the 'Cheli Maiti Cooperative Society' in Sendang district.

Kshitij Thebe, who was elected directly, and Mingma Gyabu Sherpa, who was elected from the National Independent Party on the proportional representation side, and Ramesh Prasai, who were elected from the district on the proportional representation side, have rarely stayed in the district. Thebe of Sirijanga Rural Municipality-1 Sinam, Sherpa of Phaktanglung Rural Municipality-6 Lelep, and Prasai of Maiwakhola Rural Municipality-5 Fakumba have been living in Kathmandu. They visit the district from time to time. Although their ancestral home is Fulbari in Athraitribeni Rural Municipality-2, Sendang's family has been living in their own residence in Tokmedanda, the district headquarters of Phungling.

Geeta's husband Dipendra Sendang, who became the chairman of the then District Development Committee in 2048 BS after the restoration of democracy, was defeated by the Nepali Congress in 2074 BS as a member of the Provincial Assembly from Constituency No. 'Kha'. Since both husband and wife are active in politics, they used to stay and eat at Sendang's residence when the central leader of the Nepali Congress came to Taplejung. Since they live in the district regularly, the problems of the district are not solved.
Sendang, who has fulfilled her responsibilities as the party's general convention representative and the president of the women's association, has expressed her commitment to raise the issues of the district's problems and challenges, including women's rights, in parliament during the election.

Since Sendang borders China and India and is geographically the third largest district after Dolpa and Humla, she is preparing to take initiatives in the development infrastructure and potential of the district. Since it is the district that produces the most cardamom in Nepal and most of the farmers here depend on it, she plans to take initiatives for its marketing and pricing.

She is in favor of the construction of the Pathibhara cable car. The construction side expects that she will raise the issue with the parliamentarians for the smooth operation of the plan approved by the government. When opinions were divided on whether the cable car in Pathibhara should be built or not, she strongly advocated in favor of the cable car. Sendang says that she will coordinate the necessary activities for the speedy operation of hydropower projects in the district and will draw the attention of the concerned bodies to ensure timely payment of the construction businessmen.
