She studied law to become a leader, and became an MP while practicing law.

She would protest against any wrongdoing in the village, whether it was about stopping child marriage or against any wrongdoing in the society. This is why her friends and some villagers used to call her a 'leader'. One day, she asked her teacher what she should do to become a leader. When the teacher told her that she should study a lot and have knowledge of law, she did her master's degree in law.

Gita Chaudhary from Kanchanpur belongs to a simple farming family. Her grandfather was a slave. He sent his children to school even when he was a slave. It was easier for Gita because her father and aunts went to school. While studying at school, she started joining various organizations including children's clubs and youth clubs from a young age.

She would come forward and protest against issues such as stopping child marriage in the village or against wrongdoings in society. This is why her friends and some villagers used to call her a 'leader'. But Gita felt like she was being teased. One day, she asked her teacher what she should do to become a leader. When the teacher told her that she should study a lot and have knowledge of law, she wanted to study law. After passing SLC, she studied law until her master's degree. Then she started practicing law in Kathmandu.

The same 33-year-old Gita, who studied law and became a lawyer, has been elected to the House of Representatives through the National Independent Party through proportional representation. While attending school, some of the girls from her community used to go to live in the dormitories, while others worked at home. The few who went to school would drop out of school after the second or fourth grade. But she did not quit. The result of that is that she became an MP today.

The position of MP has become a great burden for Gita along with happiness. She said that since the people's wishes and aspirations are many, it is imperative to address them. The place where she grew up still faces problems such as erosion caused by floods, unorganized settlements due to inundation, rehabilitation of those displaced during the expansion of the then Shuklaphanta Wildlife Reserve (now a national park), and the freed Kamaiya who have not yet received their Lalpursha. ‘Even now, many settlements are affected by erosion and flooding,’ she said, ‘It is necessary to manage them sustainably, and I will take the initiative for that.’

She has closely observed the suffering of those who became homeless during the expansion of the reserve. She has seen the moments of displacement with her own eyes even near the village. In addition, some have lost their lives without receiving treatment. The poor community is still unable to get education easily. ‘My first objective will be to solve all these problems,’ said Chaudhary, ‘For this, policy reforms are needed, and there are also issues of social justice for the community from which I come, which need to be addressed.’ She recalled that while working in various organizations in the village, she stopped child marriages from the mandap, and said that this problem continues in rural areas even now.

Chaudhary was still working in the field of human rights. She was also the founder of an organization called Youth Advocacy Nepal and worked in the field of human rights along with advocacy. She said that she will continue to advocate for human rights issues in the coming days.
