Bishwaraj Pokharel, who retired as Additional Inspector General (AIG) of Nepal Police, has won the House of Representatives from Okhaldhunga. Pokharel, a candidate of the National Independent Party (NISP), defeated his nearest rival, Kumar Luintel, the candidate of the Nepali Congress, by a margin of 5 votes. Pokharel won and became an MP in his first election contest. Pokharel got 13,953 votes while Luintel, who came second, got 13,953 votes.

Pokharel was born on 20 Shrawan 2023 in Rumjatar, Okhaldhunga. He is the youngest of 4 children (three brothers and one sister) of father Laxman Pokharel and mother Suryakumari Pokharel. Pokharel, who completed his postgraduate studies, entered the police service as an inspector in Chaitra 2049. Pokharel remained in service until Shrawan 2079. He retired due to age limit of 56. Before joining the police service, Pokharel had served for 5 years in the judicial service and 2 years as an administrative employee. After becoming a police inspector, he started his military journey and remained in office for about 29 years. Now, his role is to enter the role of a former security officer as well as a policymaker who makes laws. After 3 and a half years of retirement, he left his non-party and non-political role and joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Mangsir 12, 2082. Within a few months of joining the party, he won the House of Representatives elections held on Falgun 21, 2082 and set his parliamentary journey.

Pokharel was one and a half years senior to the post of Inspector General of Police, but he was deprived of reaching the leadership after the Council of Ministers led by the then Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba promoted another AIG Dhiraj Pratap Singh. Pokharel, who had approached the Supreme Court against this, was forced to retire after taking leave for three months after failing to get an order in his favor. Pokharel, who spent nearly three decades in the military, has entered the parliamentary journey with a new responsibility and role after being elected as a member of the House of Representatives.
