Sagar Dhakal of the National Independent Party has won in Gulmi's Constituency No. 1. He received 29,642 votes while Pradeep Gyawali of the CPN-UML received 15,181 votes.

Chandra Bhandari of the Nepali Congress got 13,505 votes and Sudarshan Baral of the Nepali Congress got 3,176 votes. This final vote was informed by Chief Election Officer Krishna Prasad Poudel.

Sagar Dhakal, born on 28 Baisakh 2048 BS in Satyawati Rural Municipality-6 of Gulmi, is a famous and influential young leader of the Nepali Congress. An engineer by profession, Dhakal has recently become a representative figure of the new generation emerging in Nepali politics.

He came into the limelight in national politics after the 2079 BS House of Representatives elections. In that election, he directly competed with former Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba.

By competing with Deuba, an established and powerful political figure, he managed to get about half of the votes Deuba received. This made Dhakal known at the national level. Dhakal, who was active as a social activist even before entering politics, has been continuously raising his voice on issues of education, youth empowerment, development and good governance. He believes that youth should be brought into leadership, transparency should be maintained in the running of the state, and a corruption-free, accountable governance system should be built.

Good governance, accountability, and citizen-oriented service delivery are at the center of his political agenda. Dhakal, who is active in politics on behalf of the National Independent Party, has been saying that a different thinking and working style is necessary than traditional parties and old-style politics. He believes that qualitative change will not be possible in the country unless the new generation intervenes in politics.

Sagar Dhakal's competition with established leaders from local to national levels had created special interest not only in Gulmi Constituency No. 1 but also in the entire national politics. Many have seen this clash between new political forces and the old political structure as a sign of change.

His closest rival Pradeep Gyawali has congratulated Dhakal on his victory. He had congratulated him even before the counting of votes was complete.
