Govinda Panthi of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has won in Gulmi-2. Panthi won with 16,967 votes. He defeated Gokarna Bista of the UML by a margin of 561 votes.
Gokarna got 16,406 votes. Similarly, Congress candidate Bhuwan Prasad Shrestha got 14,434 votes while NCP's Shriram Mahat got 3,081 votes.
Gokarna had been contesting from this constituency since 2056. He had been winning all elections except the 2064 Constituent Assembly. In 2064, Bista was defeated by CPN-Maoist Center candidate Chandra Bahadur Thapa by a margin of 2,000 votes. At that time, Suresh Chandra Bhusal was the candidate from Nepali Congress.
In the previous election held in 2056, Bista was up against Congress's Trailokya Pratap Sen. At that time, Bista won the election by a margin of 2,200 votes.
In the 2074 election, Gokarna was up against Congress's Chandra KC. At that time, Gokarna won the election by a margin of more than 14,000 votes. Before that, in the 2070 elections, Nepali Congress's Trailokya Pratap Sen was the main contender. At that time, Gokarna won the election by a margin of more than 6,000 votes. Before that, in the 2079 elections, Gokarna defeated NCP SK's Ram Kumari Jhankri.
