All parties in Baitadi have finalized their candidacies for the February 21 House of Representatives elections.
UML Baitadi has nominated Damodar Bhandari as its candidate for the House of Representatives elections. Bhandari is set to contest for the fourth time after winning the 2070 Constituent Assembly elections, 2074 and 2079 House of Representatives elections. He has been the Minister of State for Finance once and the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Supplies three times.
The Nepali Congress has nominated District President and Nepal Cricket Association (CAN) President Chatur Bahadur Chand as its candidate. Prem Chand, the Congress Baitadi secretary, informed that President Chand, who has received a single recommendation from the district, has come with a ticket for the House of Representatives.
The Nepali Communist Party (NCP) has nominated Parmananda Bhatta as its candidate. Bhatta, who is also the former chairman of the District Development Committee, is also the founding leader of UML Baitadi. After leaving UML, he was affiliated with the Unified Socialist Party.
Similarly, the Rastriya Prajatantra Party has nominated Bhupen Bahadur Chand, the son of former Prime Minister Lokendra Bahadur Chand.
Harimohan Bhandari has been nominated as a candidate from the National Independent Party (NISP). Bhandari contested the provincial assembly elections in 2074 BS from the Nepali Congress and in 2079 BS as an independent candidate. Bhandari was defeated in both these elections.
