After the issue of selecting a new leadership was raised at the Congress special general convention, district presidents supporting Shekhar Koirala have met party president Sher Bahadur Deuba.
They had reached Deuba's residence in Maharajgunj and made a middle-of-the-road proposal. A leader who participated in the meeting said that Deuba was positive about finding a solution but was not ready to step down right now. Deuba said that the issue of stepping down now was not relevant as he would automatically step down after two months.
Deuba also said that he would accept the decision of the talks being held between the establishment and special general convention supporters in Lazimpat.
District presidents and leaders from Kalikot, Dailekh, Khotang, Nuwakot, Chitwan and other districts were present. According to Dhading Congress leader Ramnath Adhikari, Deuba said that he was positive about reaching an agreement and uniting the party.
