The closed session of the second special general convention of the Nepali Congress is being held today. The inaugural session was held on the first day of the special general convention, which has been ongoing since Sunday at Bhrikuti Mandap in Kathmandu, and the schedule for the closed session has been set for today.
According to Subash Pokharel, coordinator of the general convention publicity committee, the closed session will begin at 10 am in the hall at Bhrikutimandap. The schedule for today's closed session is to formulate the working procedures for the special general convention. After that, nine groups will be formed and a policy will be brainstormed on four issues.
Pokharel informed that there will be a comprehensive discussion on the four issues: statute amendment, policy and leadership, governance reform, and contemporary issues. After the policy brainstorming, there will also be a comprehensive discussion on whether or not to change the leadership. Pokharel said that if a decision is made in favor of a leadership change, an election committee will be formed and further processes will be taken forward.
Pokharel believes that there will be no need to vote as the new working committee is likely to be unopposed. Meanwhile, the registration program for general convention delegates will continue until 11 am today. According to Yubaraj Pandey, coordinator of the area and district coordination committee, most of the delegates from various districts arrived only this morning, so they participated in the registration process that started at 8 am. Arrangements have been made for the program to run until 11 am.
