The UML's statute has been amended again. Chairman KP Sharma Oli proposed the amendment to the statute at the party's central committee meeting held at Bhrikutimandap ahead of the closing session of the 11th general convention.

On the proposal of Chairman Oli, the meeting has decided to increase the number of office bearers to 19.

Earlier, the statutory general convention held in Bhadra had decided to reduce the number of office bearers from 19 to 15, and the post of senior vice-chairman was abolished. Immediately after the statutory general convention, Ishwor Pokharel, who was the senior vice-chairman, had announced that he would contest for the post of chairman in the 11th general convention.

After Pokharel was determined to rebel, Oli again amended the statute, citing the Gen-G movement as the reason, to manage the leaders in his own group. Now, the UML office bearers will have 1 chairman,  5 vice-chairmen, 1 general secretary, 3 deputy general secretaries, and 9 secretaries.

According to standing committee member Sher Bahadur Tamang,  the meeting has decided to make necessary changes in the amendment to the statute to increase the number of office bearers to 19 and to have a new structure with a standing committee of 45 members and a politburo of 99 members, including a 301-member central committee.

After the meeting, the closed session under the 11th General Convention is starting at Bhrikutimandap.
