Representatives have been elected in all districts and constituencies except Doti for the 11th general convention of the UML in the Far West. Representatives were unanimously elected in Bajura, Dadeldhura, Baitadi, Darchula, Bajhang and Kailali-2 and 3 on Saturday itself.
Representatives have been selected through voting in Kailali constituencies 1, 4 and 5 and all three constituencies of Kanchanpur. 141 representatives are being selected from the far west including Doti.
In Doti, where 10 representatives were to be selected, leaders and activists said that after 43 aspirants filed their candidacies, the office bearers were given the responsibility to decide by consensus without going to the voting process. ‘The office bearers have not been able to decide by Sunday morning,’ said Saraswati Saund, who withdrew her candidacy, ‘It has already been decided not to go to the voting process.’
The selection of representatives could not be finalized on Saturday after separate groups were formed between the Ain Mahar group and the Bhairav Bahadur Singh group in Bajhang. Leaders and activists said that although there was no agreement after day-and-night efforts on Saturday, an agreement was reached on Sunday.
Of the constituencies where voting took place in Kailali, Lekhraj Bhatta and Karna Thapa supporters were on one side and Damodar Bhandari supporters on the other. In the voting results of constituency number 4 in Attariya area, only 6 people from the Bhatta-Thapa group have won. Meanwhile, in the voting held in constituency number 5 in Dhangadhi, a single representative of the Damodar Bhandari faction has been elected.
Meanwhile, in the voting held in all three constituencies of Kanchanpur, leaders Kamala Bohara, Nar Bahadur Dhami and Rajendra Singh Rawal were formed on one side and leaders Deepak Prakash Bhatt, Niru Pal, Tara Lama, Pallavaraj Bhatt and others on the other. Local leaders and activists said that representatives supporting the Deepak Prakash Bhatt, Niru Pal, Tara Lama, Pallavaraj Bhatt group were elected single-handedly from all constituencies in such a voting.
An official of the Kanchanpur UML District Committee said, "Only Parbati Joshi was unanimously elected as number 2 from the Rawal group. All the others were won by the Bhatt group." Some of those who were on the double list have also won.'
In the districts where the consensus was reached - Bajura, Baitadi, Dadeldhura, and Darchula - UML leaders and activists have said that Oli supporters have been selected in most of the representative centers. 'Out of 16 representatives in Karna Thapa's home district of Bajura, only 3 who openly voted for Ishwor Pokharel have been selected as the president,' said a UML leader in Bajura. 'It is seen that the votes of representatives from across the province are divided among other office bearers.'
