The government has allocated a budget of Rs 3.63 billion for the labor and employment sector. Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle presented the budget for the fiscal year 2083/84 in the federal parliament meeting on Friday. Key points of the budget related to the labor and employment sector:

Encouraging zero cost for foreign employment, making service fees worker-friendly

• Encouraging reverse migration, and operating remittance investment and funds to convert specialization into consumption and production
• A returnee migrant program will be implemented to utilize the knowledge, skills, and competencies of those who have returned from foreign employment
• Youth will be made skilled by operating various short-term workplace-based programs
• Review of labor agreements and additional agreements with new destination countries to make foreign employment more secure and dignified
• Necessary budget allocation to rescue Nepali citizens stranded abroad and to make arrangements to easily bring back the bodies of deceased workers
• Arrangements will be made to go to foreign employment only after learning skills
• Foreign employment will be made dignified, transparent, and automated by arranging unsecured loans and installment payments from employers
• To further encourage remittances coming in through formal channels, a lottery program will be conducted based on each receipt of remittance inflow.
• Necessary programs will be conducted to provide nutritious food at subsidized rates to support the basic health of informal workers.
