Congress President Gagan Thapa has announced his resignation. In a meeting with Vice President Bishwaprakash Sharma, President Thapa informed that he is resigning, taking moral responsibility for the party's defeat in the elections. 'It is appropriate for me to resign taking responsibility for the party's defeat. Now I am resigning,' Vice President Sharma said, quoting President Thapa.
However, Vice President Sharma advised him not to resign immediately.
Sharma said, 'This is our defeat more than the victory of the RSVP, but it is not the fault of just one person, nor of the working committee that came from the special general convention. The new working committee was formed within 5 days of the registration of candidatures and the elections were held on the 50th day. Therefore, the situation should be handled after a comprehensive and detailed review of the defeat and move forward. The President should not let the party get into a more difficult situation by resigning.'
The discussion between the two, which began on Monday evening, is continuing in New Baneshwor.
