Thapa, a resident of Itahari, was a candidate from Sunsari-2 in the 2079 BS House of Representatives election. At that time, he was limited to third place with 19,391 votes. However, this time, he managed to defeat his opponent with a significant margin and secure a place in the House of Representatives. Thapa, who came to national politics by building an organization at the local level, is recorded as a leader who won by a wide margin.
The 43-year-old Thapa, who played an active role in expanding the party organization in Koshi Province, is also the provincial general secretary of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). A graduate in civil engineering, he had been active in social and political activities for a long time. He had launched a campaign to spread public awareness against corruption by raising the issues of alternative politics, good governance and transparency.
During the election campaign, Thapa made public his election commitments, prioritizing agriculture, health, education, infrastructure, and tourism. Through a commitment letter prepared with local needs and long-term development in mind, he presented a blueprint for regional prosperity. Considering the agricultural sector as the backbone of development, he has put forward plans to expand modern farming systems, ensure fair prices for farmers, build storage centers, and establish agricultural laboratories at every local level. After registering his candidacy, a complaint was filed against Thapa in the office of the Returning Officer regarding the issue of land rent for a school in Itahari. However, the complaint was dismissed after an investigation.
His rival candidates Rajiv Koirala and Sujan Lama congratulated Thapa and wished him success in his term. Thapa said that he has expressed his commitment to develop Sunsari-2 as a model constituency through 'prosperity with good governance and responsible leadership'. Thapa, who reached the House of Representatives by defeating the candidates of established parties, has emerged as a symbol of new political power and alternative leadership. Supporters expect his work to determine the direction of his political journey in the coming days.
