The Election Commission has recommended the government to declare three public holidays on Falgun 20, 21 and 22 with the aim of increasing the enthusiastic participation of voters in the election to the House of Representatives.
According to the Commission's spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, this recommendation has been made to make it easier for voters to vote.
The public holiday for the festival of Fagu Purnima, or Holi, is on Monday, Falgun 18 in the hilly districts and on Tuesday, Falgun 19 in the Tarai districts. It is believed that by giving three public holidays, it will be easier for voters who are far from the places where the voter list is registered in various professions and businesses to reach the polling stations.
The election of members of the House of Representatives is being held across the country on Falgun 21. Parties and candidates are currently campaigning for the election.
