'Citizens' group expresses serious concern over Simara incident, urges all parties to exercise restraint

The civic group has expressed serious concern over the tense incident that occurred after a clash between the Gen-G group and UML cadres in Simara, Bara on November 19, and urged people not to engage in activities that could disrupt the country's political stability and the elections scheduled for February 21.

The group issued a statement on Thursday, saying that interfering with constitutional rights, taking restrictive measures and violent activities are 'unacceptable under any circumstances'. Group chairman Bishnu Hari Dahal has warned that activities that attack political competition will weaken the democratic process.

'The incident in a very sensitive area like Simara Airport is a sign that the country is pushing towards an unnecessary crisis,' Dahal said in a statement.  The statement urged the Gen-G group to engage in peaceful expression and parties to refrain from incitement and confrontation in the name of competition.

'As the elections approach, all parties should exercise restraint and resolve the problem through dialogue,' the group said. Urging the government to be serious about preparing for a fair and peaceful election, the group warned against the use of excessive force or unnecessary repression.

The civic group said it was 'ready to engage in dialogue and cooperation with all parties' to normalize the tense situation in the country and protect the democratic process.'
