What is the 'Nepo Kid Trend'?

The term 'Nepo Kid' or 'Nepo Baby' is popular worldwide . It is derived from the English word 'nepotism', which means an opportunity obtained based on family access or nepotism. This word is mostly used in the film industry. From Hollywood to Bollywood, the term was used to describe the children of film stars who were given easy opportunities due to family connections rather than talent. But recently this word has started to be used in political issues as well .

The trend of accusing children of privileged people of ``arbitrary'' with ordinary taxpayers' money has been on the rise in recent times . Learning from the same, this trend has spread in Nepal by targeting the children of political families. A user on the social network "Reddit" wrote, "When you see the children of political families on social media, you think they have got expensive cars, education abroad and luxurious life with the taxpayer's money." While ordinary young people have to go abroad for jobs.' Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balendra Shah has also expressed his support for the demonstration. Despite not being able to participate in the demonstration, Shah has expressed his support through social media.

Balen wrote on Facebook, "Tomorrow's (Monday) rally is obviously Jen-G's, they are under 28, for which I look even older". I also want to understand their wishes, objectives, thoughts. Tomorrow, in this spontaneous rally, no party, leader, worker, parliamentarian, activists should not be fooled to fulfill their interests . I can't go because of the age limit, but it is important to understand what they are saying, I have full support.' Gyan Bahadur Shahi, chief whip of RPP, has called to participate in this movement. Shahi posted a message on Tiktok and said, "We will fight from the House". You should take the road.'

Ranju Darshan, the leader of Viveksheel Common Party, has given tips on how to be safe in the movement. If there is a large-scale movement without a party in Nepal, efforts will be made to crush it. They say that the main person of the movement is a broker. Be careful of all these unnecessary rumours,' she said on Tiktok. Similarly, artists Priyanka Karki, Nischal Basnet, Prakash Saput and others have also expressed their support for Gen-G's performance.

Youth's previous campaigns

This is not the first campaign run by youth in Nepal. Even earlier, many such campaigns were conducted by youth. Earlier, the 'No Not Again' campaign of the 2079 election was conducted. The aim of this campaign was to replace the old leaders and hand over the leadership to the new generation. As a result, independent candidates were elected at many local levels including Kathmandu. This campaign is also believed to have helped the RSVP candidate.

In the same year, the 'Rage Against Rape' campaign was also launched. The campaign went on for a long time demanding justice for the victims as the incidents of sexual violence are increasing in Nepal. Hashtags including 'Balatakari Hos Tan' and 'No Means No' became popular during this campaign. At that time, thousands of young people took to the streets.

Before that, the 'Enough is Enough' campaign was run in 2077 . The youth ran this campaign against the corruption that happened during the covid . When the people were dealing with the epidemic of Covid-19, this campaign was accelerated by saying that the government had committed corruption. At that time, non-political youth took the leadership of the movement. Along with peaceful protests, they ran online hashtags like 'Enough is Enough'. Similarly, in 2065, the 'Nepal Khula Chha' campaign was started when people's life became difficult due to sometimes shutdowns and sometimes strikes. Ujjwal Thapa and others ran this campaign against 'Nepal Band'.
