The ruling Congress and the UML have suddenly become active to remove the Deputy Speaker Indira Rana from the post, raising the two-and-a-half-year-old American visa issue. With the agreement of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, both parties collected the signatures of their MPs on Tuesday for the purpose of registering a resolution against Rana for not behaving in accordance with the position.

Congress has 88 and UML has 77 MPs.

Among them, Mohan Bahadur Basnet of Congress and Top Bahadur Rayamazhi of UML are under suspension. They cannot vote. Congress and UML need the support of 21 more MPs for two-thirds. The ruling party is hoping to get the support of 7 MPs from JSP, 5 from JSP Nepal, 6 from Janmat Party, 4 from LOSPA and 4 from Civil Rights Party. Civil liberties president Ranjita Shrestha has pledged to go to the Congress parliamentary party and stand in favor of the proposal.
