How many people can be accommodated in a building with a capacity of 200 people? Three hundred or more? Built in 1993, Jaleshwar Jail has a capacity of 135 prisoners.
Recently, its capacity was increased to 200 . But here now 559 prisoners are kept in a coach. For which there are only 15 toilets. Some of the prisoners who came from Kantipur said that they have to wait for a long time for stool and urine.
Due to the dilapidated building, 35 female prisoners were transferred from here to Sindhuli prison in June 2079. After that, the number of 165 prisoners increased to 200.
Jail Administrator Ashok Kumar Chhetri said that 559 prisoners are now kept. He said that the prison was dilapidated, there was a lack of budget for maintenance and they worked in coordination with the local level. He said, 'Because the physical structure is dilapidated, there is a problem in keeping prisoners. But there is no problem with discipline.'
Chief District Officer Narayan Prasad Risal claimed that despite the poor structure and lack of accommodation facilities for prisoners, there were no disputes or problems inside the prison.
