Malaysia through illegal route through Thailand on Nepalese labor visit visa

After the recruitment of foreign workers in the areas other than plantations and security guards has been stopped for 10 months in Malaysia, it has been found that human traffickers are illegally transporting Nepali workers through Thailand. It is planned to bring them to Thailand on a visit visa and from there to Kuala Lumpur by road across the Golok River on the border with Malaysia.

After the increase in illegal entry, Malaysia has tightened entry into the Kelantan region and made it mandatory to use Rantau's immigration . However, hundreds of students from Thailand's Narathi province cross the Golok River by boat every day to study in the bordering Kelantan Rantau Pajang area, so the locals have been protesting against the tightening of the border .

Although the local administration is strict, human traffickers use the same route to smuggle foreign workers into Malaysia. As the workers do not have to bear any responsibility, Malaysian employer companies also enter through illegal routes and employ undocumented workers easily.

Malaysia has not taken new workers from the source countries including Nepal since last May, saying that there are more foreign workers than the quota. For security guards, it has been opened only for Nepal a month ago. The production and service sector, which takes the most labor, is still closed. Among the Nepali workers in Malaysia, 62 percent are employed in manufacturing and 29 percent in the service sector.

One of those who entered Malaysia through illegal routes is Marchawari-3, Naveen Pasi from Rupandehi. He, along with two other villagers, Rajdeu Pasi and Ravi Pasi, were lured by human traffickers and entered Malaysia by crossing the Golok River. We were waiting to go to Malaysia for foreign jobs. But the admission is not open. After that, Vinod Yadav of the village told us that we can go to Malaysia from Thailand on a visit visa, so we came to him," Naveen, who met at the Nepali Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, told Kantipur, "We were taken to Malaysia by boat from Thailand." They told us that we get a monthly salary of 1700 ringgit. It was only after coming here that he came to know that he entered Malaysia illegally . Then we immediately informed the house . All the families are scared," Naveen said, "We came with the money from the sale of the farm. Now there is no farm.'

Sajan Shah took the responsibility of transporting all three of them from Kathmandu to Thailand. "There was no inquiry anywhere at the Kathmandu airport." But we were stopped at the Thailand airport for three hours. It was the broker from Thailand who brought them out of immigration," Rajdeu said, "but we never saw the broker from Thailand. He used to work by phone. According to him, he was taken to the hotel through phone contact. They used to make us stop the taxi. And we used to give the phone to the taxi driver . He used to give the address of the hotel . Likewise, we went to a hotel in Bangkok and stayed for one night,' said Rajdeu, 'the next day we were taken by taxi to the market on the border of Thailand.'

They were taken to the bank of the Golok Sungai River, which flows on the border of Thailand and Malaysia, through the phone. We were taken to the border at 4 am. There were others too . Was not allowed to speak. Hastily made to board the boat . The river was crossed in a few minutes," Ravi said, "I thought it would be sent by immigration. However, after crossing the river, it was said that you entered Malaysia directly. There was a vehicle ready for them. It reached Kuala Lumpur .

After getting off the boat, Ravi found out that they had entered Malaysia illegally. For fear of being arrested, they did not start looking for work . I thought that the law should not be evaded like this. We have arrived at the embassy to return to Nepal," said Ravi.

The Nepali Embassy immediately proceeded with the process of their return to the country. And, they stayed in a shelter next to the embassy. He paid 3100 ringgit (about 1 lakh 8 thousand rupees) to the Malaysian government for a ticket to return to Nepal and for entering illegally. Had they been arrested by the Malaysian police, they would have been imprisoned for five years. The embassy has coordinated with immigration to send three people to Nepal. I had to pay a fine for that," said Labor Councilor Krishna Bhusal to Kantipur.

According to the Nepali Embassy, the number of Nepalis illegally entering Malaysia through the border of Thailand like Naveen, Rajdeu and Ravi is increasing recently. However, the embassy does not have its exact number. Some who have entered illegally are working in Malaysia taking risks. I had returned after working in Malaysia for 5 years. After not getting a job in Nepal, I wanted to come again. "I came to Malaysia from Thailand," said a Nepalese girl met in Rawang, "There were three women in our group, now we have no contact." It seems that Malaysia has started bringing in workers in various fields as per the need. Now the security area has been opened for Nepalis. In the near future, the production and service sectors will also be opened," says labor councilor Bhusal, "those with illegal entry are not allowed to work in Malaysia . If caught, he should be deported after paying jail and fine.'
