The statement of the defendant Leila Pachai continues as five defendants, including Ravi Lamichhane, chairman of the Rashtriya Swatantra Party and former Home Minister, accused in the embezzlement case of Suryadarshan Sahakari of Pokhara, were brought to the Kaski District Court for a statement.
After the statement of Chabilal Joshi, another defendant in the case, ended on Tuesday, the subsequent statement was started from the same day. Kaski District Court Information Officer Suraj Adhikari informed that after the statement was stopped due to public holiday on Wednesday, his statement resumed today.
The statements of the defendants in the case are being made in the courtroom of District Judge Nitij Rai. According to information officer Suraj Adhikari, the statement of the other defendant will begin after the final statement is over.
Lamichhane, Joshi, Pachai, Krishna Bahadur Gurung and Ram Bahadur Khanal were brought to the court last Monday for their statements in the cooperative fraud case. The court said that only after the statement of all the defendants, the detention will be discussed and ordered.
Last Sunday, the District Attorney's Office, Kaski, filed a case against 44 people, including RSWP chairman Lamichhane, on charges of misappropriation of cooperative funds. A case has been filed against Lamichhane for organized crime and money laundering.
The public prosecutor's office has said that a case has been filed against 63 people in the district court of Kaski in the case of money fraud of Suryadarshan Cooperative.
Assistant District Attorney Shantidevi Sharma of District Public Prosecutor's Office, Kaski informed that 19 people, including Lamichhane, were prosecuted for organized crime . Along with Lamichhane, a case has also been filed against Khanal, Joshi and Pachai for money laundering, according to the Public Prosecutor's Office.
Other people accused of co-operative fraud have also been registered with the demand of punishment and failure according to the crime. Chairman Lamichhane was arrested from Kathmandu on October 2 last on charges of misappropriation of Suryadarshan Cooperative's savings.
He is being investigated for co-operative fraud in other districts including Kaski. When he was the director and managing director at that time, the RSVP president Lamichhane has been accused of misappropriating the cooperative's savings by bringing it to Gorkha Media Netcurve.
Former DIG of Nepal Police Joshi was arrested on October 6th and was being investigated. The main planner of the Suryadarshan Cooperative fraud, GB Rai, and other accused are still absconding.
