Chitwan National Park was starting to become a tourist destination, around 2035 Giridhari Chaudhary opened a lodge in Sauraha. About two hundred meters from the lodge lies the old Sauraha village, his home. The former Bachhuli region is now known as Sauraha. The old Sauraha village is now like a small village.

As the new Sauraha expands, there is concern among the locals that the existence of the old Sauraha village will disappear. The villagers here, which are dominated by the Sauraha Tharu community, are currently trying to preserve their arts and culture. 

There are 112 houses of the Chaudhary community in the old Sauraha area. The old Tharu villages like Maunaha, Malpur, Badrahani, Odara, Dorangi, Bachhuli, Jankauli, Baghmara are now all known as Sauraha. As the originality of Tharu village started to fade with the heavy traffic of foreign tourists, the concept of 'Chatiya Street' was brought to the village on the initiative of Raithanes here. The aim is to attract tourists towards the originality by 'branding' the chhatiya (umbrella) worn by the Tharu community to protect themselves from the sun while farming. Now it is called Amrela Street by placing umbrellas in places. I think tourists will like it if they sell Tharu dishes on the street made by placing thatched roofs in the old Tharu village,' said Giridhari. 

Chhatiya woven with bamboo leaves printed with bhorla leaves is not in fashion now. Tharu community and agricultural workers used to use chhatiya instead of umbrella. It has almost disappeared now," said Birendra Mahato of Bachhuli, who is also a ward member of Ratnanagar Municipality-6. Birendra said that efforts have been made to revive the old Sauraha, which is disappearing in the Sahara of Chhatia.

Wagmati province has built 'Chatiya Street' with a budget of 30 lakhs from the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and 300,000 from the Ward Office. Now it is decorated with colorful canopy in 45 meter length. At night, it looks more attractive when the lights are lit according to the color of the canopy. Mahato said that in the evening, Raithane dishes of the Tharu community will be arranged in the stalls placed on "Chatia Street" for tourists who enjoy watching wild animals in Sauraha all day long. 

Locals are also planning to present Jhamta and Lathi dance, the original cultural dances of the Tharu community, on Chhatri Street two days a week. "Sauraha's identity has become global. But the residents of Sauraha, the same old place, have not been able to connect with tourism," Birendra added, "The Tharu community can also benefit from tourism through Chhatia Street." Even vehicles pass through Chhatia Street now and again. "We are thinking of stopping the traffic for an hour and a half two days a week in the evening so as to run an alternative route soon," said Birendra.
