Tek Bahadur Shakya, a candidate of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSWP) from Parsa Constituency No. 4, has been elected as a member of the House of Representatives by a large margin. This is the first parliamentary journey of 50-year-old Shakya. Shakya is the son of Ram Bahadur Shakya, who has a permanent residence in Thori Rural Municipality-4, Vijay Basti. He is also a student of Political Science, having passed the Certificate of Proficiency level.

Shakya's political journey is not new. In the past, he was a central member of the then CPN (Maoist). After being inactive in the party for a few years, he joined the Rastriya Swatantra Party shortly before the House of Representatives elections. After that, Shakya, who entered the election fray as the candidate of Parsa-4 from the RSWP, won in his first attempt.

According to the final vote results, Shakya received 28,06 votes. His nearest rival, old Nepali Congress leader Ramesh Rijal, received 12,534 votes. Shakya defeated Rijal by a margin of 15,472 votes.

Shakya sees his victory as a sign of the change sought by the people of the region  . ‘The residents here, who have been suffering from corruption, misrule and discrimination for a long time, want change,’ he said, ‘The leaders of the old parties did politics for years, but the living standards of the people could not be improved. Instead, only the living standards of the leaders were improved.’

According to him, the people, who are deprived of even basic services like education, health and infrastructure due to oppression, discrimination and misrule, have expressed their anger through their votes this time. Shakya said that he has been working as a companion in the joys and sorrows of the people of the region for a long time and said that the people have given him an opportunity this time.

According to his childhood friend Basanta Shrestha, Shakya has been active in local development work for a long time. ‘Shakya has understood the problems of the people here closely,’ says Shrestha, ‘He has also taken the initiative to bring some development projects. He is a beloved person to many here due to his nature of being able to mix with all age groups.

Shakya, elected from Parsa-4, has now entered a new political journey with the responsibility of addressing the development of the region and the expectations of the people in parliament.
