Dr. Arjun Karki, 62, a resident of Tumlingtar, Khandbari-9, Sankhuwasabha, has been active in communist politics for a long time. Due to his development-oriented, visionary leadership and practical working style, the popular leader Karki has closely observed the possibilities, needs and challenges of the district.
Dr. Karki was active in various educational and institutional roles before entering politics. He was also the president of Himalayan Yogmaya Ayurvedic University. He entered active politics after resigning from that position. Leaders close to him say that Karki has long experience in the education and health sectors.
Dr. Karki has also played an important role in the diplomatic sector. He has been the ambassador to the United States of America twice on behalf of the Government of Nepal. He has gained experience in international diplomacy, policy making and development. Voters expect him to use this experience in the development of the district.
Dr. Karki, who has been active in UML for a long time, won this election with 15,636 votes. In the counting of votes held at midnight on Monday, he defeated his nearest rival, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSWP) candidate Mingma Sherpa, by a margin of 636 votes. Sherpa received 15,000 votes.
According to Chief Electoral Officer Rajkumar Koirala, Congress candidate Dipan Kumar Shrestha received 13,271 votes, while Shram Sanskriti Party candidate Uma Rai received 9,857 votes.
After the election results were made public, Dr. Karki expressed his gratitude to all the voters who voted for him. He has expressed his commitment to continue to be active for the overall development of Sankhuwasabha. He said, 'Now my entire attention will be focused on the overall development of Sankhuwasabha.'
Dr. Karki said that a long-term plan and a clear roadmap are necessary for the development of the district, and he will prioritize infrastructure, education, health, employment and tourism development. He is of the opinion that the natural resources, tourism potential and agricultural products in the district will be used to build a foundation for economic prosperity. According to local leaders of the UML, making Dr. Karki a candidate was an important decision that will give a new impetus to the development of Sankhuwasabha. The party leadership is confident that he will create new possibilities in the district due to his clear vision of development, administrative experience and diplomatic ability.
Sankhuwasabha is considered a district rich in natural resources, tourism and agricultural potential. However, due to the lack of adequate infrastructure, investment and planning, those possibilities have not been fully utilized. Dr. Karki has said that he will move forward with the goal of changing this situation and making the district self-reliant and prosperous.
Locals are also expecting solid development in the district from Karki, who is known as an experienced leader. It is believed that with political experience, diplomatic background, and commitment to development, a new chapter will begin in the overall development of Sankhuwasabha.
