Urmila Thebe of Sirijanga Rural Municipality-1 Sinam was a member of the House of Representatives until Bhadra 25. She was reinstated as a member of the House of Representatives on Poush 7, 2079, but her responsibility was lost due to the youth movement on Bhadra 23 and 24. However, the voters of Taplejung have elected her son Kshitij Thebe to the same position six months later.

The difference is that mother Urmila had become a member of parliament through proportional representation. Son Kshitij became a member of parliament through direct election. Kshitij's family's political journey is not limited to this. Father Bhupendra Thebe was elected in the Constituent Assembly election held 12 years and 3 months ago (2070 Mangsir 4) and entered Singha Durbar. Both father and son have registered their names as directly elected members of parliament.

They used to say that after 12 years, Kholo returns. However, the competitive journey of UML and Congress in Taplejung did not return . UML's victory continued . In 1970, Thebe defeated Nepali Congress's Liladevi Bokhim by 139 votes . Kshitij defeated Congress President Gajendra Prasad Tumyahang by a margin of 2,251 votes . Out of the 46,474 votes cast across the district, Kshitij received 13,962 votes . His nearest competitor Gajendra Prasad Tumyahang received 11,711 votes .

There is a difference in constituencies in the election competition between father Bhupendra and son Kshitij . When Bhupendra became a candidate, Taplejung had two constituencies . He won from constituency number 1 . When his son became a candidate, there is only one constituency for the House of Representatives . Taplejung has one constituency for the House of Representatives and two for the Provincial Assembly. Born and raised in a political family, Kshitij has continued the legacy of Jijubaje.

Kshitij's father Bhupendra has been active in politics since 2037 BS. He has been a people's representative since 2043 BS. After democracy in 2046 BS, he became the chairman of the then Sinam Village Development Committee (Gavis) twice, in 2049 BS and 2054 BS. Earlier, in 2043 BS, he became the head panch of the same Sinam Village Panchayat. He started his political journey as the president of the youth organization in 2037 BS. After leading one VDC continuously, on Mangsir 4, 70 BS, the people gave him a public vote for writing the constitution while leading half the district. After becoming a member of the Constituent Assembly, he also became the district chairman of the party.

Urmila Thebe, who married Bhupendra on Falgun 29, 2035, and entered Taplejung as a bride from Panchthar, also became a member of the party's central committee when voters gave her the responsibility of a people's representative from ward chair to member of the House of Representatives. Before getting the responsibility of a member of the House of Representatives in Poush, 2079, Urmila fulfilled the responsibility of ward chair of the ward where her husband Bhupendra, father-in-law, brother-in-law and father-in-law had repeatedly fulfilled the responsibility of chair and head panch. She was elected as ward chair of Sirijanga Rural Municipality 1 Sinam in the 2074 local level election.

Sinam has been made ward number 1 of Sirijanga Rural Municipality after federalization. In the first local level election after federalization, Sirijanga-1 Sinam elected Urmila and Phungling Municipality 5 elected Bhima Ojha as ward chair. There were only two ward chairs in 61 wards. After becoming the ward chairperson, Urmila became a member of the House of Representatives, while Bhima is working as the deputy mayor of Phungling Municipality.

Urmila is also a former central member of UML. After the NCP, which was formed by parties including UML, Maoist Center, and others, split and UML and Maoists returned to their respective parties, there was a shortage of people to lead the party in the Taplejung UML district. Bhupendra had also become the district committee chairman, supporting KP Sharma Oli when they went their separate ways. After two people were under the leadership of the same party, the district committee convention was held on 27th Poush 2078. Thebe became the district committee chairman for the second time, defeating his competitor Bal Bahadur Samsohang by 56 votes in the convention.

Not only Kshitij's parents, but also his grandfather and great-grandfather are politicians. They continuously played the role of people's representatives. Kshitij's grandfather (grandfather) Man Prasad was the head of the Sinam village panchayat from 2024 to 32 BS. Jijububa Bhim Bahadur became the head of the Sinam village panchayat continuously from 2017 to 24 BS. From the panchayat to the republic, that is, from 2017 to 2054 BS, the current Sirijanga Rural Municipality 1 Sinam has been led by a grandfather, son and grandson from the same family. Even the granddaughter and daughter-in-law have led the ward.

Another interesting incident is that Bhim Bahadur, who was leading the village panchayat, had competed with his own brother Man Bahadur Liwang of the Samdhi Liwang village panchayat for the post of district panchayat president. However, he was defeated by one vote. His village was blocked from entering the district. His competitor Man Bahadur's brother was the father-in-law of the eldest son Vijayraj. Although his father, grandfather and grandfather entered politics at the local level, Kshitij became an MP by leading the district at one time. Bhupendra and Urmila did not get the opportunity to become ministers and reach the executive role of the country. They have had to make do with the legislature.

Vijay Prakash Thebe (son of Bhupendra's younger uncle) from the same family became the Minister of Commerce in 2036 BS. Since he was the first minister of the Thebe family, locals say that the villagers gave the Thebe the title of the son of a minister. When Kshitij Thebe became a candidate, there was criticism that the same family ruled like a king. However, this issue did not take a big shape. Although it was raised at the cadre level, it did not become a general issue.

The youngest candidate of Taplejung

Kshitij was born on 27th Mangsir 2044 BS in Sirijanga Rural Municipality-1 Sinam. Thebe contested the 2082 House of Representatives elections against 13 candidates from 13 political parties. He (38 years old) is the youngest candidate among the contestants. He was in competition with 66-year-old Surya Tamu Gurung. He completed his SLC from Sinam Secondary School in his village and went to the federal capital Kathmandu to pursue higher education.

Being a member of a political family, he started his political journey from the sister organization of CPN-UML, ANRFSU. He became like a family member from that time on, being in touch with UML leader KP Sharma Oli, who came to address a public meeting in his birthplace Sinam. At that time, UML was led by Madhav Kumar Nepal. However, Thebe had become active in Oli's faction. When the program was being held in Sinam, the wind and tornado blew away the stage. At that time, he was the same Kshitiz who covered Oli with a plastic chair to protect him because the umbrella did not cover him.

Kshitij has completed his graduation. He is the only one of two sons and two daughters who is active in politics. His elder brother is in the Singapore Police Force. His elder brother and two sisters are not active in politics.

During the election campaign, he has expressed his commitment to work for the people. Thebe, who has not made many big and long speeches like in the past, has expressed his commitment to build roads in the villages, provide drinking water and irrigation facilities. Thebe has claimed that he will work wholeheartedly for the people and will not give them any room to complain that their votes were wasted. Geographically, the third largest district after Dolpa and Humla and bordering China and India, he has stated that he will work to strengthen international relations.
