Prakash Singh Karki of the Nepali Congress has been elected from Solukhumbu in the House of Representatives elections held on Falgun 21. He won by securing 13,166 votes. His nearest competitor, Asim Rai of the Nepali Congress, secured 9,414 votes.
Karki, who was born in Nechasalyan Rural Municipality-1 in 2020, has studied up to the higher secondary level. Having pursued politics and social service simultaneously, he entered politics as a member of the Nepali Congress in 2035. He became a representative from Solu in the Chaksibari Conference of the Nepali Congress in 2047 and has worked as the general secretary of the Solukhumbu-Kathmandu liaison committee of the Nepali Congress, a party district member and a general convention representative.
Along with politics, his name also comes together in the social sector. He was associated with the tourism business and was also the president of the Nepal Freight Forward Association and a member of the executive committee of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
In 2074 BS, he became a candidate for the provincial assembly but was defeated by a candidate from the left alliance. He has set a record by becoming a member of the House of Representatives, having won the ticket in 2082 BS, beating senior party leaders. He is considered close to party president Gagan Thapa.
He was recommended as the fourth candidate for the ticket from the district by the central leadership elected at the party's special convention. This time, Bal Bahadur KC was recommended as the first candidate, Angelu Sherpa as the second, and Binod Basnet as the third. After Bal Bahadur KC announced that he would not contest the election, Karki won the ticket, beating other candidates.
