16 parties contest Sankhuwasabha elections, none repeat

Candidates from 16 political parties, including one independent candidate, have registered their nominations in Sankhuwasabha for the upcoming election to the House of Representatives to be held on February 21.

All the candidates are new faces. None of the candidates who had filed their candidacies in the previous elections are repeating themselves.

According to the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, those who have registered their candidacies in the district are Rajkumar Lagh from the Nepal Workers and Peasants Party, Devendra Ghale from the Mongol National Organization, Pushpa Bahadur Koirala from the Netra Bikram-led CPN-Maoist, Uma Rai from the Shram Sanskriti Party, Mingma Sherpa from the National Independent Party, and Basudev Dahal from Madi Municipality-4 as an independent candidate.

Similarly, Dr. Arjun Karki from the UML, Bharat Yakkha from the Janata Samajwadi Nepal Party, Dipan Kumar Shrestha from the Congress, Keshar Singh Rai from the Nepal Janmukti Party, Ranmaya Rai from the Federal Democratic National Forum, Sarita Thapa from the Nepali Communist Party, Krishna Bahadur Rai from the Nepali Janashramdan Sanskriti Party, Ghanshyam Waling Rai from the National Parivartan Party, Padam Bahadur Tamang from the National Prajatantra Party, and Hem Kumar Gurung from the National Janamorcha Party have also registered their candidacies.

According to the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, there are currently 22 political parties active in Sankhuwasabha district. With 16 of them and independent candidates participating in the election, competition for members of the House of Representatives has intensified.
