The flood after the incessant rain has washed away the diversion located at Mechinagar-6 of the under-construction Asian Highway (Eastern Section) under the East-West Highway.
After the flood in Kalikhola washed away the diversion, the traffic on the highway has been completely blocked since morning. The flood has also damaged the diversion at other places of Kankadvitta-Laukhi Road Planning Office (Eastern Section).
Kalikhola had previously leaked diversions . While the old concrete bridge was being demolished and the new bridge was being constructed, the traffic was being operated through temporary diversion. However, Saturday night's Arighopte after the rain has caused damage.
The eastern section of the Asian Highway is being upgraded at a cost of around 10 billion rupees with the help of the Asian Development Bank. Avraskan-Kalika JV has been conducting the construction work under contract.
The project office has said that if there is a problem on the highway during the rainy season, arrangements have been made to solve it immediately by deploying a 'rapid response team'.
