On Sunday, 71.33 percent votes were cast in the by-election for the post of chairman in Gramthan Rural Municipality of Morang. According to the election officer's office, a total of 18,578 people participated in the voting, including 8,966 men and 9,612 women.

The total number of voters in this municipality is 26 thousand 44 people. 

In the by-elections held after the death of Jaiprakash Gachchdar, who was elected from the Nepali Congress, the ruling parties UML-Congress have also competed separately. 

16 political parties, including an independent one, have entered the election field. Among them are Congress, UML, CPN Maoist Center, National Independent Party, CPN Integrated Socialists and others. Out of which, as in the past, there is a possibility of a tripartite clash between UML, Congress and Maoists. Balram Sardar Tharu of Congress and Tulsiram Biswas of UML are contesting. 

Namonarayan Majhi from Maoist Center, Dinesh Kumar Thandar (Divesh) from RPP, Dil Bahadur Bishwakarma from United Samajwadi Party, Suresh Kumar Rajwanshi from Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal and Dharmendra Kumar Chaudhary from JSP have become candidates. Similarly, Boudhanarayan Majhi from Inclusive Samajwadi Party Nepal, Buddhijan Biswas Tharu from National Liberation Party, Parshuram Biswas Tharu from Nepal Workers Kisan Party, Vinod Kumar Majhi from Janamat Party, Raju Musahar from RPP Nepal, Navin Kumar Biswas Tharu from National Independent Party, Bharat Rai from Mongol National Organization, Baburam Bhattarai's Nepal Samajwadi Party. Ramkumar Chaudhary Tharu and Navnarayan Chaudhary Tharu have contested independently from the party.

Meanwhile, the election officer's office has informed that the counting of votes will be done from midnight on Sunday. Assistant Election Officer Ramraj Paudel said that the target of announcing the results throughout the day on Monday has been set by the office.
