In protest against ride sharing, public transport will not be used in Gandaki from Friday

In opposition to the regulations brought by the Gandaki state government to recognize ride sharing, the public transport businessmen have announced that they will not drive within the state from Friday, May 16.

The Public Transport Bachau Sangharsh Samiti 2082, which involves transport businessmen and workers, held a press conference in Pokhara on Wednesday and announced that if the 3-point demand is not met, the vehicles will be kept in garages. They demand that the regulation should be completely abolished, the written policy of the state government should be solid in relation to public transport operation method, import policy, and contribution-based social security fund should be implemented in the public transport sector.

Gandaki coordinator Kedar Prasad Paudel of the National Federation of Nepal Transport Professionals said that transport services will be suspended from May 16 in Gandaki and from May 19 across the country as per the central program. The Gandaki State Government had published the Ride Sharing (Regulation and Management) Regulations 2082 in the State Gazette on May 1. After that, the transport business gave a one-week ultimatum on May 8, submitting a memorandum to the government to cancel the regulations. 

announced that the service will be suspended from May 15 if the demand is not met within a week. Coordinator Poudel said that since Thursday is Republic Day, transport services will be closed indefinitely from Friday.
