Rolpa engineers Hemant Roka Kshattri and Lok Prasad Bista feel like walking from home to school. They sometimes think of it as a dream and remember those days even now. Coming to school wearing slippers brings back the memory of sweaty body. Those days are very memorable for engineers Roka Kshattri and Bista. The memory of reaching school and getting education after suffering a lot comes fresh in front of them at this time.

They are most happy when they work together on the plan to turn the rough road that they walked on into a paved road. Both of them are also very happy to be involved in road planning around Sulichour Bazar in East Rolpa . For Rolpa, they are very happy now that they have the opportunity to design, implement and monitor road plans under the state government and the federal government.

The engineer working in the road infrastructure development office in Rolpa Libang has the responsibility of working in the area of work up to Pyuthan and Rukum east along with Rolpa. From this office, which was established about 5 years ago, 20 suspension bridges, 8 concrete road bridges and more than 300 kilometers of roads have been constructed in three districts. In the current financial year, about 80 road planning works are also underway. Some of those plans are also in the villages where they grew up. On the one hand, engineers feel the joy of developing their own villages, on the other hand, they also feel the special responsibility that the work should be done reliably and according to the rules.

Engineers are employed during the implementation of plans around Badachur and Mizhing. ``Thinking that every project can be done well, we have paid serious attention.'' Engineer Roka and Bista both agree. Due to the activity of both, the road from Sulichour to Mizhing village to Khumel and Ghajul, from Sulichour to Koiralkhark, Ares, Tebang, Phagam, Pang, Badachur through Harjang, Siuri and Gam, Sirp etc. roads have been constructed . Among them, the road up to Sulichaur-Kilachaur-Badachaur-Gumchal has been blacked out. Sulichour-Mizhing-Khara, Daibang-Kalibang-Nuwakot, Khara-Gajul-Dhabang under Sunilmarg and other roads are in the process of being blacked out. Chirne Khola Paved Bridge, Ghoda Khola Paved Bridge, Lungri Khola Paved Bridge and Bojang Khola Paved Bridge are major projects in this area.

District's risky plans include blasting in coordination with the Nepali Army in the Phulivan section of Sulichour-Thabang, the access road of Gangadeo rural municipality, and the Ot section of Ghartigaon-Jinabang. The construction of the road from Serum to Ghusbang, which is considered to be the most difficult in East Rolpa, is continuing. Sirkang Bhir of Seram is the most famous and scary scheme of this region . Along with this, engineers have been working with the responsibility of the office for the work of opening new tracks, widening the road, making drains and blackening. On their shoulders, the responsibility of "engineering" has fallen on the road from Sulichour to Thabang in East Rolpa and the construction of the road connecting various areas of Rolpa and the municipality to the headquarter Libang . Similarly, they have an equal role in the construction of access roads from one municipality to another. They are also responsible for maintaining the roads built by the local level and facilitating coordination and communication between the road plans of the state and the union.

After studying at the school level, there is a question among students, 'What will you study now?' That is, what subject will you study and what will you become? Everyone has that curiosity. These two from Rolpa had not made such a solid plan before becoming engineers. They started studying regularly with the aim that those born in remote areas should study and become employed. However, at that time, it was only a common belief that one should read to recognize letters in the village . It was natural for both of them to have the same thoughts in the village environment . It was a common thought and belief in the village that one could become a teacher if one could read with a little bit of effort. Although the Maoists started armed conflict from Rolpa in 2052, political conflict and influence had also started before that. Even in this situation, they continued in the line of reading . Meanwhile, engineers usually study engineering in a different discipline. They were studying at the school level when the multi-party system had recently come and political conflict had started in Rolpa. Roka from Gumchal and Bista from Mizhing are both students from outside the headquarters Libang. So it was a difficult situation for both of them to understand, discuss and squeeze out education above SLC. Both Bista who secured first division marks in SLC examination 2051 and Roka Kshatri who passed SLC examination first division in 2058 started their overseer studies . At that time, one had to go to Pokhara or Kathmandu to study engineering. However, at that time there was no provision to study engineering directly.

Senior engineer Hemant Roka Kshatri, head of road infrastructure development office in Rolpa, is surprised to be able to pave the golden road that he walked in Sano himself as an engineer. Gumchal, a remote village in East Rolpa, where he was born and brought up . While studying and going to buy salt oil, like others, he also walked on the white road. But he says that he is very happy to be in the role of an engineer to pave a 12 km long road from Sulichor to his own village Gumchal via Badachor.

'Because I was born in a remote area, I did not think that the path I walked on would be paved (black paper) . Also, I did not expect that I would get the opportunity to check the road as an engineer. It is a pleasure to develop my own village home," said Roka, a 39-year-old senior engineer. Roka, who said that he was not sure which subject to study and what to become when he studied up to the school level, recalls that he studied engineering subject due to circumstances. In the year 2058, Roka Kshattri was walking across the sandy goreto while going from Gumchal village of Rolpa to the headquarters Libang to take the SLC exam. From his home Berigaon in Gumchal, he had to walk through Sewar, Badachour, Barahkshetra, Kilachour and Ruinibang before reaching the nearest market Sulichour.

'Had to lose my father just when I was given SLC . As I am the eldest son of the house, the responsibility of the house also fell on my shoulders . However, I did not stop reading,' says Roka. According to him, father Mansingh Roka, who was the principal of a secondary school in upper Gumchal village, was captured and killed by the then Maoist fighters. After that, the family was not only scattered, but had to be a victim of grief and fear. He said that he entered the city to study without losing courage. In the absence of a father, Roka, a senior engineer, said that he was able to study with the help of his teacher mother and Mavali uncle. Its story is different. We have been suffering after our father was killed illegally by the Maoists . Justice has not been found,' he complains.

After passing public service in 2075, he was working in ROLPA and in 2080, he was promoted and became a senior engineer. He has been the head of the office since October 2079. Former Member of Parliament Lekhnath Acharya said that he was promoted soon because of his nature to work with integrity to develop the infrastructure sector of the district. According to him, engineers have helped the development of the district because they are young and energetic.

Similarly, an experienced engineer who passed the SLC examination of 2051 with first division marks was born in a Bunekhane family of Mizhing village . He was able to study at the Dipendra Police Boarding School in Dang, where he was educated below the secondary level.

'When I was confused about what to study after SLC, I went to study engineering on the advice of my relatives and elders. At that time, there was no facility to directly study engineering like today. That's why it was customary to study as an overseer or sub-supervisor," he said. After completing his engineering studies in 2059, he went to work in Rautahat and Sarlahi districts under the Bagmati irrigation project. The 47-year-old Bista, who did not give importance to getting a job by participating in the public service examination, has worked in many plans and projects in many places. Working as a consultant in Rolpa, he has gained experience by working for two years in Rasuwa, one year in Sindhupalchok, two years in Achham, three years in Banke, and two years in Pyuthan. Since 2076, he has been busy with engineering work in Bhir Pahra of Rolpa.
