Children who are just learning sarangi, youth who have mastered sarangi and the previous generation who have spent their lives in sarangi gathered together in Pokhara on Friday evening. These three generations of the Gandharva community have been raised by the National Sangeetkarmi Association, Kaski in the 'Sarangi Utsav'.

The Gandharva community around Pokhara gave their performance during the festival. The trainees of Jhalakman Sarangi Pathshala in Batulechaur and Gandharva Sarangi Pathshala in Hemja performed sarangi and madal songs. The Gandharva community of Batulechaur, Hemja, Badhare and Gagangonda also gave their presentation. Karkha Band, recently formed by fusion of sarangi, madal, guitar and drum set, presented songs by Jhalakman Gandharva, Purna Nepali, Dhan Bahadur Gaik and others.  In a program organized in collaboration with

Gharana Events, Sangeet Karmi Sangh honored Khim Bahadur Gandharva, who traveled to China with poet Keshari Dharmaraj Thapa in 2013 and played sarangi tunes to Mao Zedong. Along with him, Lal Bahadur Gaik, Sammar Bahadur Gaik, Govinda Gaik, Hari Gandharva and Krishnaji Gaik were also honored.

The team of the film 'Poorna Bahadurko Sarangi', which will be screened on November 15, also attended the occasion. The main actor of the film, Prakash 'Saput', said that in previous films, Gandharva was limited to the scene of playing the sarangi in a vehicle or on the road. In the event, Dhanraj Acharya, head of Pokhara Metropolitan Municipality, said that Pokhara and sarangi are synonymous and mentioned that work is being done on sarangi conservation through Pokhara Pragya Pratishthan.

Artist Purna Nepali emphasized that the government should pay attention to protect Gandharva as it has its own culture from birth to death. Sunil Gaik, president of National Musicians Association, Kaski, said that the Sarangi Utsav was organized to encourage the new generation in sarangi conservation while honoring the elders who spent their lives in sarangi. "It is not only the Gandharva community's responsibility to preserve the sarangi that makes Nepal known around the world," he said.
