”If I can save a little, it will come in handy in my old age.”

I earn at least 30,000 rupees a month from selling vegetables. This has helped me cover my household expenses. I don't feel ashamed or embarrassed when I walk to the market and say, ”I got vegetables.” I think that no job is too small or too big.

”If I can save a little, it will come in handy in my old age.”

What you should know

There was no cash income in the village 50 years ago. It was a tradition for many of the village's friends to go to India for cash income. Rather than thinking that there was no way out within the country, they went to India in a hurry. Seeing everyone in the village earning cash money made me happy. At that time, India was the country where most people earned cash income.

I also wanted to go to India with my friends. I had a habit of working hard since my childhood. That's why I spent my time in Mumbai, India, as long as I had strength, strength, and age.

I am now 61 years old. My old home is Aslewa Chaur in Satyawati Rural Municipality, Gulmi district. Now I have a house in Asantol, Tansen Municipality 2. I have experience of working in India for almost 45 years. I have been selling vegetables in the squares and streets of Tansen for the past two years. I enjoy going to the market because I have vegetables. What to do? I am also getting old. That's why I think I should not spoil the habit of working hard. I think that visiting the market every day is also beneficial for the body.

I think that buying vegetables from the village and selling them in the squares and streets will also help me in my old age. I don't feel any discomfort in selling vegetables. I think that others will want to work hard when they see me. They have started calling me 'vegetable guru'. Still, I enjoy it.

We should not be ashamed to work and eat. We have a habit of going abroad to work whatever we want but being ashamed to work in Nepal. While living in India, I worked in a photo studio. I also worked in a hotel line. I have experience in that too. I ran my own photo studio. I have even employed 15 to 19 people. Now, Nepal has become very expensive. It is better to sell vegetables to meet my own expenses. Although I wanted to open a photo studio. But, the photo studio we run now is not very important.

Those who have property, probably still have no problem managing their household expenses. But it is difficult for ordinary citizens to meet household expenses. I do not have any diseases. My wife spends 10 to 12 thousand every month on medicine. I have been providing 10 to 12 thousand for household expenses. If the market goes, every item becomes expensive every day. We have to rush to earn 20 to 25 thousand. The farmers of the village are also suffering because of middlemen.

I also sell vegetables brought from different places in Gulmi, Arghakhanchi and Palpa. The farmers have not received the price. The same vegetables are expensive in the market. I buy from some middlemen. Now some vegetable farmers are also in touch. I sell for some time in the afternoon at Hulakchowk, the main market of Tansen. Then I take it to the market. I do not feel any discomfort even when I visit the market.

I earn at least 30 thousand a month from selling vegetables. This has helped me with my household expenses. I don't feel ashamed or embarrassed to say 'vegetables have arrived' while walking in the market. I think that no matter how big or small the work is, there is no shame in working and eating. We have a habit of going abroad to work whatever we want, but being ashamed to work in Nepal. I think that doing so is cheating ourselves. I don't like living at home, becoming a slob. I don't like living a retired life.

You have to work until you are old. If you can earn a few paisa and save, you won't have to rely on anyone in your old age. It's been a long time since I went to my ancestral village Aslewa. Almost all my relatives in the village have gone to the Terai. I don't feel like going to the Terai.

If inflation could be controlled, it would be better for those who earn less. There are federal, provincial and local governments. But why couldn't they control inflation? Everyone should raise their voice on this. I think I should think about those who earn less than me, rather than people like me.
