The government has announced that it will start studying/teaching in four disciplines, including MBBS, at the Shahid Dashrath Chand University of Health Sciences in Geta, Kailali from this fiscal year. Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle mentioned this in the budget statement for the upcoming fiscal year presented in the federal parliament on Friday. 

The university had decided to start medical education from this year and upgrade Geta Hospital to 300 beds. The government's announcement makes it clear that MBBS study/teaching will now start in Geta. Earlier, the university had started the necessary process with the Medical Education Commission for 50 MBBS, 30 BSc Nursing, 20 Medical Lab Technology and 20 BSc Optometry seats.  

In addition, it was decided to upgrade the 50-bed hospital operating within the university to 300 beds. The university administration had stated that it has requested a budget of Rs 2.58 billion in the upcoming fiscal year for the operation of the hospital and educational programs. 

The university had already started the process of appointing 26 professors and 51 associate professors on contract service for academic manpower in the month of Falgun. Under which, the process of filling up the posts of human resources in subjects such as physiology, pathology, ENT, general surgery, anesthesiology, internal medicine, ophthalmology, medical education, pharmacology and others had been started.
