On this day (March 20) in 2016, US President Barack Obama visited Cuba during a historic visit. He is the first US president to visit Cuba since 1928.
Obama arrived in Havana, the capital of Cuba, for a three-day visit. At least 8,000 to 1,200 people, including American leaders and businessmen, participated in the tour team. With the 1959 revolution in Cuba, the US-backed government was overthrown.
After the incident, the relationship between the two countries was very tense. But in 2014, Obama and Cuban President Fidel Castro improved relations between the two countries, opening the way for the visit. During Obama's tenure, commercial flights and ferry operations between the US and Cuba have been resumed.
Born on August 4, 1961, Obama was the US president for two terms. He held the office of President from January 20, 2009 to January 20, 2017.
