What you should know

Eighteen candidates have received recommendations to open bank accounts in Kanchanpur for the House of Representatives elections. According to the District Election Office, out of the 55 candidates who filed their candidacies as of Friday, only 18 have received recommendations to open new bank accounts for election purposes.

According to the election code of conduct, any candidate must make the expenses and contributions received in the election only through the banking system. Contributions and expenses of more than 25 thousand rupees must be made through the bank and receipts must be submitted even if they are made in cash.

‘The process of taking recommendations to open a bank account is ongoing, and we expect it to increase in the coming days,’ said Harish Chandra Joshi, Election Officer of the District Election Office, Kanchanpur, ‘We are currently interacting with candidates and political parties about the code of conduct.’ He said that discussions and interactions have been held with candidates and representatives of political parties in all three constituencies of the district. According to him, an interaction was held on the code of conduct in Belauri, Kanchanpur-1 on Friday alone.

There are a total of 55 candidates, 19 in Kanchanpur-1, 19 in 2 and 17 in 3, which have three constituencies. Candidates must open a separate account in any bank for election purposes. The Election Office has been giving recommendations for that.

The commission has made a provision to make the expenses incurred in the election systematic and transparent, allowing candidates and political parties to receive both support and expenses only through the banking system. In the case of Kanchanpur, there is a provision that candidates can spend up to 2.9 million.
