Gorakh Bahadur Chand, chairman of Pancheshwor Rural Municipality and member of the UML Sudurpaschim Province Advisory Committee, has announced that he has left the party, citing a unilateral decision in selecting representatives for the 11th general convention of the UML in Baitadi.

Chand said that he left the party because there was factional manipulation in the name of selecting a unanimous representative and a single representative was selected without informing him about the candidacy he had registered.

‘They did not select me as a representative even though I opposed the extreme factionalism, job-hopping and swindling practices within the party,’ he said, ‘I raised my voice against the autocratic leadership but I could not.’ UML Baitadi has unanimously selected 15 national convention representatives on Saturday. Chand had joined the party in 2047 BS. Chand was elected as the chairman of Pancheshwor Rural Municipality from UML in 2074 BS and 2079 BS.

Chairman Chand is considered a popular leader in the Province 2 region of the district. In 2074 BS, UML won the Province 2 region due to Chand’s activism, while in 2079 BS, UML candidates lost. UML District Committee Baitadi had initiated action against the UML candidate, saying that Chand had failed to cooperate with him. But the provincial committee had not taken action.

Although Chairman Chand had registered his candidacy by submitting a will, he was not selected after the person who submitted Chand's will withdrew his candidacy without coming to the discussion within the time limit, said Dan Singh Karki, coordinator of UML Election Committee Baitadi.

UML Baitadi Chairman Naresh BK said that the district committee had not received the information about Chand's resignation in writing.
