Many flights in one day, nearly 95,000 kilometers and more than 100 hours in the sky! FIFA President Gianni Infantino spent a lot of time in the sky during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The World Cup, which spanned the largest area in history, was held in 16 cities in three North American countries - the United States, Canada and Mexico - and four different time zones. Leading up to the final in New York, Infantino continued to travel for games, meetings and various events.

The Associated Press (AP) analyzed the flight logs of the private jet he was on, photos and the social media accounts of FIFA and Infantino himself. According to this analysis, by the time Spain defeated Argentina to become world champions, he had already circled the Earth almost two and a half times.

Infantino's amazing journey was made possible thanks to the Qatari government's 'Gulfstream G650' private jet. The plane is operated by the charter division of FIFA sponsor Qatar Airways.

Since departing from Los Angeles to Mexico City on June 9, the plane has made an average of more than one flight per day, and sometimes three, throughout the tournament.

In addition to watching the games, Infantino has also traveled to New York to give interviews on Fox & Friends and to Miami for the FIFA summit. In the meantime, he returned to the United States before the semi-finals, having flown to Doha to attend the funeral of the former Emir of Qatar.

FIFA has pledged to reduce carbon emissions by 50 percent by 2030 and reach net-zero by 2040. But the sprawling World Cup, spread across three countries and the extensive air travel required by teams, fans and officials, has made it the most carbon-intensive and polluting World Cup in history, according to climate researchers and environmentalists.

Here are some interesting statistics compiled by FIFA President Infantino during this historic World Cup, which featured 104 matches over 39 days and spread across three countries:

44 matches : He attended a total of 44 matches in the stadium throughout the tournament. He was in the stadium on 31 of the 34 match days and sometimes managed to watch two matches in one day.

16 stadiums : He visited all 16 host stadiums and watched at least one match. He visited Miami's Hard Rock Stadium the most 5 times.

Two matches in 13 days : There were 13 such days when he managed to visit two different stadiums hundreds of miles apart.

21 airports : During the trip, he used major international airports as well as small business airports in Atlanta and Miami.

23 border crossings : His jet crossed international borders 23 times within North America on its way to the semi-finals.

115 hours of flight time : Not including the trip to Qatar, he spent 115 hours (about 5 full days) in the air. That's the equivalent of flying from New York to Los Angeles 20 times on a commercial plane.

5 hours and 44 minutes long flight : His longest flight was a 344-minute flight from Miami to Seattle on June 15. That's the equivalent of three full football matches.
